LETTERS ON WILLIAM C. QUANTRILL'S RAIDERS -
Two hand written letters in purple pencil by George
Scholl to Fletcher Taylor one of Quantrill's captains and who planned the infamous raid on the citizen's of
Lawrence Kansas during the border wars. Scholl served with Taylor and Quantrill. Both letters contain great
content reminiscing about "the good old days" and about other members of this fanatic outlaw band. The first, is
two pages front and back, Valley Park Mo. 8vo., Dec. 18th 1911. Following are some of the entries..."I
FOUND YOU AFTER YEARS OF SEARCHING....BROS BOONE'S "TWO IDEAL SOLDIERS" SENT
ME THEIR PICTURE....SOLDIER BOYS WHO YOU KNEW SO WELL, FEELING FINE- WILL BE 66
YEARS OLD MAR 5TH NEXT"....., SIGNED YOURS UNTIL DEATH TO US PART. Fold tears at the top
and middle which affects the writing somewhat and Scholl's last name. The second letter is also two pages front
and back and measures 11x14. Valley Park Mo., Nov. 2, 1911. Following are some of the entries, "DEAR OLD
BOY FLETCH, I READ YOUR LETTER OF OCT. 14TH AN HAD THE HEAVEN OPENED AND
DROPPED ON ME. I SCARCELY EXPECTED TO FIND FLETCH TAYLOR....NO HURT (SIC) OF
COURSE FROM THAT DATE UNTIL WE SURRENDERED AT LEXINGTON LAFAYETTE CO. MAY
SUNDAY 21ST WE WERE GOING SOME FROM 100 TO 500 FEDERALS AT EVERY CROSS ROAD
THEY DARED NOT FOLLOW US TO THE "BUSHES.".....WE CAME TO MO. SPRING OF 65
GETTING INTO KINGSVILLE JOHNSON CO. MAY 7TH ANOTHER SO CALLED MASSACRE.
Scholl mentions names of about 15 other men who apparently served with them under Quantrill. Folds, one
through his name others with some small pin holes. Soiled and slightly yellowed other wise good. SEE SCANS
for complete text of letter. This is an incredible archive of information about this fanatic group of outlaws who
terrorized the people of the mid-west during the Civil War years. Any material relating to Quantrill are extremely
rare and seldom are offered for private sale. Payment by money order preferred or Bank check, personal checks
